Julianne Martin
Principal Process Engineer
I am a Chartered Chemical Engineer (IChemE) with over 20 years’ experience in
municipal drinking water and wastewater process engineering across New Zealand and the
UK. I am appointed to the Taumata Arowai Water Technical Panel (Drinking Water),
contributing technical expertise in water safety planning.
For the past three years I have led my own consultancy, delivering projects
independently for local authorities and water suppliers.
I enjoy being on site and around treatment plants, working alongside operators and
asset teams to identify risks, work through upgrade options and define the right
solution, and improve how the plant is run day to day. My approach is collaborative
and practical.
Outside of work my husband James and I try to keep up with our two boys on the mountain
bike tracks.
I am a Process Engineer (B.Eng Chemical) with over 10 years’ experience in
manufacturing and project delivery. I began my career in cement manufacturing before
moving into the oil and gas and petrochemical sector in South Africa. There, I spent
seven years working on projects across the full lifecycle, from preliminary design
through to construction as-built documentation.
I started my journey in safe drinking water three years ago, focusing on drinking
water safety and compliance in New Zealand. My work has included drinking water
assessments for the Ministry of Education and supporting drinking water safety planning
and regulatory compliance for several councils.
I enjoy piecing together treatment systems and developing practical solutions that
improve process safety and reliability for the communities they serve.
Outside of work, my husband and I spend much of our time keeping up with the many
sports activities our kids enjoy, which keeps life busy and fun.
How We Work
We work directly with water suppliers providing independent technical advice and
structured project support.
Engagements may be defined as fixed-fee scopes where deliverables are clearly
specified, or on a time charge basis for regulatory interpretation, event response, and
ongoing technical support.
Where appropriate, I work alongside design consultants, contractors, and operational
teams to provide specialist process and compliance input.
